This is the first time i’m posting a baked item after I got my new oven. I love baking much more than usual cooking. I had bookmarked a lot of items, including cookies, cakes, tarts, quiches, etc. etc. from a long time to try out. Now I’m glad that i’ll be able to make them soon.
This recipe is from one of my favorite food blogs, Mariasmenu. I have made this once pretty long ago and they turned out very well then. This time I wanted to add a personal touch to it so I decided to make a different filling. So I came up with the idea of ‘tuna filling’. This filling is something that I have made numerous times but always for tuna sandwiches.
Ok now coming to the recipe:
Servings: 8 to 10 usual sized buns
Ingredients:
- Plain flour – 3 cups
- Salt – to taste
- Yeast – 1 tbsp
- Egg – 1 no.
- Warm water – 2tbs
- Milk-1/2 cup
- Oil-1/2 cup
- Sugar- 3tbsp
- Egg-1, beaten for egg wash
For the filling:
- Tuna – 1 can
- Onion – 3 nos (chopped)
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Capsicum – 1 medium (chopped)
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Salt – to taste
- Black Pepper powder – as required
- Soy sauce – 1 tbsp
- Tomato Ketchup – 3 tbsp
Method:
- In a bowl mix together warm water, 3 tbsp sugar and yeast using a wooden spoon and leave aside for 10 mins.
- Boil milk in a saucepan and allow to cool. Once cooled, add oil and 1 egg and mix well.
- Mix together half of the plain flour and salt in a separate bowl. Pour in the milk and yeast mixture and combine together. Add in the remaining flour little at a time and knead until a soft dough is formed. But note that the dough should not be sticky. Leave it for about 1 to 2 hours or till it becomes double in volume.
- Punch it down, knead and divide it into equal sized balls. Roll out the balls and place a little tuna filling in the center and shape it back into balls. Place them on a baking tray and prove for 10 mins.
- Apply egg wash over the buns and bake in a preheated oven at 180 C for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Place on a wire rack and cool.
For the filling:
- Heat some oil in a pan and saute the onion till it turns pink. Add in the ginger-garlic paste and saute for a minute more. Add salt, pepper powder and soy sauce.
- After a minute add in the tuna and cook for about 5 minutes. Finally add in the chopped capsicum and tomato ketchup and mix and cook for about 3 minutes.
- Turn off the stove and allow to cool.
