pizza honey

I usually make vegetable pizzas, but few days back I thought why not make something different and interesting. I decided to make chicken pizza, but then I was confused on how to make it different. I starting adding to the chicken all the ingredients I got at hand. (hee hee don’t panic..sometimes that’s how I come up with new tastes..but I confess that at times things don’t turn out how I expect them to!!) Anyways this time was lucky for me. Whoever tasted my pizza really loved it and from all their encouragement I decided to put it here so ‘my style’ pizza also gets a tiny space in the thousands of varieties of pizza.

Servings: Makes two medium sized pizzas

For pizza base:

  • Plain flour – 1 cup + extra
  • Salt – 1 tsp
  • Olive oil – 1 tbsp
  • Instant yeast – 1 tbsp
  • Luke warm water – 1 cup

For Pizza Sauce

  • Olive oil – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Pepper powder -1 tbsp
  • Sugar – 3/4 tsp
  • Onion – 1 medium (chopped)
  • Garlic – 2 to 3 cloves (chopped)
  • Tomato puree – 1 cup
  • Tomato Ketchup – 3 tbsp
  • Oregano – 1 tsp
  • Thyme – 1 tsp

For Topping

  • Red, green, yellow & orange bell pepper – 1 cup
  • Diced onion – 1 no.
  • Mozzarella Cheese – for topping (shredded)
  • Boneless Chicken – 250 gms
  • Honey – 2 tbsp
  • Pepper powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
  • Oregano – 1/2 tsp
  • Thyme – 1/2 tsp
  • Chicken masala – as required (optional)

For the base:

  • In a bowl, mix together the plain flour, instant yeast and salt. Make a well in the center and pour the lukewarm water and olive oil into it and mix. Add extra flour if needed and continue mixing till a soft dough is formed. Brush a little oil over the dough and leave till it doubles in volume.

For the sauce:

  • Heat oil in a saucepan. Add chopped garlic and fry for 30 seconds. Then add the chopped onion and saute till it turns golden. Add the tomato puree, tomato ketchup, oregano, thyme, salt, sugar and pepper powder and cook till the excess water from the tomato evaporates and the consistency becomes that of a sauce. Once the sauce cools, blend it in a blender to get a smooth sauce.
For Honey chicken chunks:
  • Cut the boneless chicken into 1″ chunks and wash and drain. Marinate with honey, salt, pepper powder, lemon juice, thyme, oregano and chicken masala and leave for at least 10 minutes.
  • Heat 2 tbsp of  oil in a pan and add in the chicken chunks and fry till the chicken is cooked and golden in color.
To assemble:
  • Apply a little oil on a non-stick frying pan (8″ dia). Place half the dough in the pan and gently press and flatten the dough evenly till a uniform base is formed. Make sure to press the dough a little up the sides of the pan.
  • Spread the pizza sauce over the base and sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over it.
  • Then place the chicken chunks and the chopped vegetable on it and sprinkle just a little more cheese and oregano on top and gently press the pizza using hands. Cover the pan and leave aside for 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, heat an iron tray or tawa. Then place the covered pan and cook for 10 to 15 minutes covered. Once the cheese on the top has melted very well, Honey Chicken pizza is ready!!
