Ingredients

  • Red lintels – ¼ cup
  • Yellow lentils  – ¼ cup
  • Turmeric  – 1 tsp
  • Salt –  to taste
  • Fenugreek leaves – 1 tsp
  • Ghee – 1 tbsp
For tempering
  • Ghee ½ cup
  • Onion – 2 tbsp (chopped)
  • Garam Masala powder – ½ tsp
  • Chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
  • Ginger – 1 tsp (finely chopped)
  • Crushed garlic – 1 tsp
  • Tomatoes – 2 finely (chopped)
  • Coriander powder – ½ tsp
  • Chaat Masala – ½ tsp
  • Green chilies – 4 (slit)

Method

  • Soak both types of lentils for 15 minutes.
  • In a saucepan add 4 cups water , lentils along with the salt, turmeric, fenugreek leaves and ghee.
  • Pressure cook until tender, slightly beat the lentils with a whisk.
  • For tempering heat ghee in a wok and add cumin seeds. When they pop add the chopped ginger and garlic till it is slightly browned and then add the chopped onions and stir fry for 2mins.
  • Then add the tomatoes and add chili powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder, chaat masala and fry for another 5 minutes on low heat till tomatoes become tender.
  • Finally add the green chilies and pour over the cooked lentils and mix.
  • Serve hot with chappathis.
